* GB-1 Gypsum Soil Blocks

These blocks are made of gypsum and are cast around two stainless steel elctrodes. They are manufactured in controlled conditions to ensure uniform, fast, and accurate readings of soil moisture content. The blocks are best suited for testing soil at various depths and are easy-to-use, as the lead wires are simply connected to the meter.

The KS-D1 Digital Soil Moisture Tester, used with GB-1 Gypsum Soil Blocks, make up a valuable system for measuring soil moisture content. With an easy-to-read digital display, a portable and rugged design, and internal battery and calibration checks, this meter measures moisture available to plants. Take the guesswork out of scheduling irrigation with the KS-D1.

The features of the KS-D1 provide many benefits for users. With accurate moisture readings, you can eliminate under-irrigation, which prevents wilting and makes applying fertilizer more efficient. The KS-D1 also eliminates over-irrigation, which creates remarkable savings in power, labor, and water usage. Measuring moisture content effectively prevents soil spoilage due to excess water and poor drainage and yields bigger, better crops at lower cost.

Using a soil auger, soil sampler, or posthole digger, you can insert Delmhorst Gypsum Blocks at any depth to best suit the root structure of each crop, since moisture is checked in areas of active root growth. The number and depth of gypsum blocks are determined by the specific crop. For deep rooted plants, we  recommend three points; the lowest point of the root system, midway, and near the surface. The blocks should be left undisturbed.

To read a block, connect the blocks’ leads to the KS-D1 meter, press the READ button, and read the display. Advantages of an Irrigation Chart Recording the meter readings on a soil chart, like the attached example, provides a visual of the variations in soil moisture. This makes it easy to determine the quantity and timing of irrigation. Permanent records of irrigation and rainfall help evaluate overall crop yields.
